Experiential Learning with Horses

"Becoming a leader is synonymous with becoming yourself. It is precisely that simple, and it is also that difficult." - Warren Bennis

"Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude."
- Ralph Marston

We offer the following seminars and trainings:

The Art of Natural Leadership

Team Building

Professional Women

Why are horses suitable for leadership training?

Horses always ask: Who is leading? They expect us to:

  • put our values into action
  • be rather than do
  • take unconditional response-ability
  • communicate authentically speak our truth
  • follow through with absolute clarity and purpose

In so doing, they help us understand that leadership begins with who we are - our integrity. Who we are, determines what we can and cannot do.

Having no ego and living in the world of non-verbal communication, horses are not impressed with position, money or power. Horses fight for their place in the herd hierarchy and choose a leader whom they feel will keep them safe and ensure their survival.

Horses model the essential qualities of trust, authenticity, honesty, intuition, listening, willingness and perseverance. They provide 100% honest, non-judgemental feedback, reflecting back our strength of character, our heart, our internal incongruence and our self-limiting perceptions.

Horses live one hundred percent in the present. Their power lies in their ability to choose and to act for the sole purpose of staying alive. Each day requires a different degree of focus, stamina, determination and presence.

Horses help us close the gap between how we actually present ourselves to others, and how we think we do. Working with horses takes us on a significant journey - this is a process, not an event - called accelerated, emotional learning.

Horse-Alliance seminars are reduced to the essentials of leadership practice. Our horses have the instinctive and natural behaviours that enable us to quickly arrive at what leadership is all about. Learning is a process of change and in order to learn, we must, to a certain degree, let go of who we think we are and what we think we know.

At Horse-Alliance, we don't give advice or answers. There is no right or wrong way to lead, there is your way! We hold a space for you to expand into and the horses lead the way. All you need is within you. It's not about the horses, it's about YOU - and as you work with the horses, you'll have a lot of fun along the way!

Seminar Language

Seminars are held in both English and German, as required.

As seminars are held outdoors or in a riding hall, we ask participants to wear suitable casual clothing and solid footwear.

Seminars are held at various locations in Germany, where HorseDream Partners have their facilities (see PARTNERS).

In Bavaria, Horse-Alliance works at Promberger Hof, STERN 2, 82439 Grossweil (near Kochel).

Horse-Alliance Seminars

"Good leadership consists of doing less and being more." - The Tao of Leadership - John Heider

To be successful as leaders, we know we need more than technical competence. We need emotional and social intelligence. We need to grow as people because we know that who we are is the main determinant of what we can and cannot do.

In this seminar you'll experience the essence of leadership and leadership models in a powerful and practical way. In the exercises we do, our co-trainers demand you fulfil your role as their leader - nothing more and nothing less. We learn to keep our heart open and our mind sharp and to tap into our imagination and create options.

Our ground exercises highlight:

  • Subtleties of verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Freedom, responsibility and integrity
  • Being 100% in the moment
  • Intention vs. behaviour
  • Identifying & respecting boundaries
  • Influence vs. control
  • Confronting fear & developing confidence

You will receive feedback from three sources, namely, video, team members and the horses. We keep theory to a minimum, but all results are related back to our every-day lives and our professional world. Time is set aside for personal reflection and discussion.

Our experience shows participants are able to profoundly enhance their self-knowledge, self-image and self-responsibility, when working with our co-trainers!

You are guaranteed an experience you'll never forget!

Seminar, 11. Juni 2015

“The centered and grounded leader has stability and a sense of self. I know where I stand and I know what I stand for: That is ground." The Tao of Leadership - John Heider

“Presenting leadership as a list of carefully defined qualities (like strategic, analytical, and performance-oriented) no longer holds. Instead, true leadership stems from individuality that is honestly and sometimes imperfectly expressed. Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection.” Sheryl Sandberg, COO Facebook

In 2012 a Harvard Business Research team carried out a survey involving over 7000 companies. Results showed that women leaders outscored their male counterparts in 15 of the 16 core leadership competencies. So, obviously, for women in leadership there is no lack of competence!

We believe that becoming a leader requires much more than taking on a leadership role, acquiring skills and adapting one’s leadership style. It requires a fundamental identity shift. Women need to gain a sense of themselves as leaders – by internalizing a leadership identity.

This Horse-Alliance seminar for women in leading positions offers everyone the possibility of recognizing their own unconscious style of leading, and changing it if desired. The horses help us to be more authentic and aware, trustworthy and resourceful – and to have a purpose that is meaningful to us. We also learn to use our focus and energy to reach our goals.

This seminar concentrates on:

  • Subtleties of verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Leading authentically
  • Being 100% present
  • Self-perception vs How others see us
  • Setting/identifying boundaries
  • Distance and Nearness
  • Clear Communication
  • Building Respect and Trust
  • Using Power and Authority

By the end of the day, among other things, you will have:

  • A clear picture of your own leadership style
  • Know your own values and belief system
  • Experienced what it means to be 100% present
  • Experienced how you are perceived by others
  • Learnt how to build respect and trust
  • Seen what clear communication can achieve
  • Experienced what it is like to lead authentically
  • Found areas that you would like to develop

Feedback comes from three sources, namely, video sequences, team members and from the horses. Theory is kept to a minimum, but all results are related back to your position as leader in your professional world. Time is set aside for personal reflection and discussion.
